The Year In Review: Halloween Treats for the Troops - Just an excuse to once again let them know that we were thinking about them and brighten another day for them. We stuffed approximately two thousand decorated treat bags and ship them off to different camps for distribution. We recruited Girl Scouts/Brownies and small groups of children to help us with this "kid-friendly" task. Independence Day
- We shipped care packages to 25 camps in Iraq and Afghanistan in June so
they would received them in time for Independence Day. Included in the
packages were "Party Packs which included donated (and a few purchased),
red-white-blue holiday decorations, many assorted boxes of toiletries and of
course lots of snacks and rink mixes. The thank-you notes started arriving
before the holiday even arrived so we know they were much appreciated. Golf Tournament Fundraiser 2009- at Evergreen Country Club was a HUGE success!! The final numbers showed that we raised approximately $9,000 net this year!! THANK YOU to all who supported our event. This event is our only true fundraiser of the year which helps us to finance a great deal of our shipping costs and supplies throughout the year. Girl Scout Cookie Challenge 2009 - Our challenge: "You donate 'em, we'll ship 'em." This year due to the economy the numbers were down but we still shipped over 3,000 boxes of donated cookies thanks to the wonderful citizens in the area, Brownie, Junior and Senior Girl Scouts of Loudoun and surrounding counties. We shipped to Iraq, Afghanistan, as well as some stateside hospitals. Hats off to all of the girls scouts and donors who purchased them! Easter - This year we were unable to provide any Easter Baskets or shipped filled Easter eggs as we have in the past, due to lack of donations. The economic situation trickles down to even the most deserving individuals. In past years our Easter "baskets" were truly appreciated by the patients and their families over at Walter Reed . Giving out our baskets combined with a complimentary lunch provided by Moe's Southwest Grill and Blue's music provided by the Campbell Brothers was a huge draw and very successful in 2008. Deliveries to some of the wards and the Fisher Houses for patients who could not attend the festivities, made for a very fulfilling event. Christmas and Winter Holidays - The winter holidays are always our busiest time of year and last winter was very hectic and fulfilling for us. We had huge turnouts at our public packing parties at the Moe's SW Grill locations in Leesburg and Chantilly. Although donations were down we still shipped holiday gift bags to over 3,000 troops and hundreds for individual gifts of games, sports equipment, favorite toiletries, DVD's, etc. We also shipped about 50 boxes of toiletries to be shared to many camps. Treats for the Troops - Last year we packed up and shipped over 1500 treat bags to the troops and took over 200 over to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for the patients and their families. We also sent decorations and even some costumes and masks. The thank you notes were arriving before Halloween even came and expressed how the unexpected treats were truly enjoyed across the miles. This year we hope we can treat even more troops.
